Laboratory of Biomolecular Modeling was created in 2007 on the basis of the former Group of Molecular Modeling. The Laboratory is a part of the Structural Biology Division at the M.M. Shemyakin and Yu.A. Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences. Over a period of 10 years the Laboratory members are carrying research in the field of bioinformatics and molecular modeling. The scientific areas of interest include in the first place structural/functional studies of membrane and membrane-active proteins and peptides, protein-ligand interactions, computer-aided design of new biologically important compounds. Research projects running by the Laboratory are regularly sponsored by Russian and international foundations (RFBR, RSSF, INTAS, NATO), as well as by the Ministry of Education and Science and Foundation of the President of the Russian Federation. Among our commercial partners are several world-known biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies (Novartis Pharma AG, Ajinomoto, Inc., and others). The Laboratory works in close collaboration with the companies developers and suppliers of modern hardware and software (AMD, Data Technologies, T-Platforms, and others). The Laboratory members are specialized in biophysics, physico-chemical and structural biology, biomolecular computer simulations, and bioinformatics. They graduate from the leading Russian universities M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State university, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, and so on. The Laboratory participates in the educational programs of these universities in the field of biophysics, bioengineering, and physical chemistry. Among the Laboratory staff scientists are: one Doctor of Science, five PhDs, about ten junior researchers, post-graduates, and students. For a period of 10 years, the Laboratory members published some 50 articles in peer-reviewed international and Russian journals. One D. Sc. thesis, five Ph.D. theses, and more than 15 diploma works were defended. Scientific results are reported annually at the International and All-Russian conferences, symposia, and schools. All biomolecular simulations are carrying out on modern computer platforms owned by the Laboratory (high-performance multi-processor clusters, workstations, etc.) The Laboratory has access to computational resources of the Joint Supercomputer Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow). Long-term unique experience, including participation in realization of multi-lateral complex projects (e.g., in the framework of the Russian Federal Programme Research and Development in Priority Areas of Russian Science and Technology 2002–2006 and 2007–2012), along with established collabotative relations with several experimental groups, represent a solid basis which makes the Laboratory open for future scientifically-rich partnership. Many of our solutions have no analogs on the innovation market.
